Introduction

October 31, 2009

While I have a lot to say and am anxious to get to it, I think I should probably start with who I am and why I’m blogging.  My name is Jim Wiedman (pronounced Weedman) and I work for SGT, a Federal contractor in Greenbelt, Maryland.  One of the things I like about the Federal contracting industry is  that I can have lots of different opportunities without changing companies.  In the past ten years I’ve been an IT security lead, systems engineer, system administrator and even my company’s Chief Information Officer.  I’m currently the lead enterprise architect for a great team supporting the Goddard Space Flight Center.

My educational background is unusual for someone in my field:  I have a law degree from American University’s Washington College of Law although I have never taken the bar so I am not a lawyer.  This background helps give me insight into issues such as evidence, intellectual property, computer crime, and contracts.  I plan to touch on some of those topics in this blog.

Other topics I plan to discuss include:

  • Strategic thinking
  • Risk Tolerance
  • Innovation Strategies
  • Collaboration
  • Futures Markets for Business
  • Innovative Security Solutions
  • Managing Security Without Saying “No”
  • Information Governance

While I like gadgets and technology solutions as much as anyone, there are plenty of other places to discuss those topics and I don’t plan to do much of that here.

The purpose of this blog is to allow me to share  ideas on Information Management and get feedback.  I find that I learn much better when I take the time to capture lessons and discuss them with others.

I hope you’ll take the time to share your thoughts on my posts and help create a dialogue where we can all learn from one another.
